This spring, AskRI and OLIS are holding lectures on using the database resources found on AskRI. Taught by educators from those databases, they are an excellent way to become more familiarized with the tools available for the use of library staff, and their patrons. These trainings are open to any library staff in Rhode Island. Registration through OLIS required.
AtoZ Databases: Friday March 28 at Warwick Public Library
AtoZ Databases is used by patrons to find information about businesses – including healthcare professionals – and people in order to create mailing lists and sales leads or to research job opportunities. This program will help library staff use the features of this resource of AskRI.org – performing effective searches for businesses and people, and learning how businesses can use the product to increase their reach and visibility.
HeritageQuest and African American Heritage Databases: Thursday April 17 at Cumberland Public Library
At this session, library staff will learn to use AskRI’s genealogical resources from ProQuest – HeritageQuest and the African American Heritage Database. Each with unique ways of conducting research, these databases are invaluable for historical research, with primary sources such as census data and draft records. Whether for their own use or to help patrons, staff will get an in-depth look at these tools.
