AskRI and World Book Workshops in April

On April 12th and World Book will be holding a workshop at the Cranston Public Library. This workshop is designed for parents, teachers, and librarians who work with young learners and want a deeper understanding of World Books online tools. The workshop will cover World Book’s online products, research tips and tricks and, an overview of the redesigned interface for World Book Student. The workshop will start at 2:30 pm and will run approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. If you plan on attending please register using the form below.

World Book Google Classroom Integration

Do you and your students use Google Classroom and World Book’s online databases? If so integrating World Book content into Google Classroom just got a lot easier.

World Book has upgraded their suite of products to allow for easy sharing of any article to your google classroom account. Simply locate the Share option found under Tools and Settings menu. In the “Share” menu select Google Classroom. You will be redirected to a login for your Google Classroom account.

EBSCO Training Session

On Monday, May 12th, from 9:30 – 11:30, Joe Ceterski, training specialist for EBSCO databases, is coming to the Ocean State Library offices in Warwick to explore some of the most popular databases that they offer – Academic Search, Master File and Consumer Health Complete. Learn how to best use these powerful resources both for yourself and with patrons. Registration through OLIS is required, and attendees are welcome to bring a laptop or device to follow along!

Courses on Using Our Databases

This spring, AskRI and OLIS are holding lectures on using the database resources found on AskRI. Taught by educators from those databases, they are an excellent way to become more familiarized with the tools available for the use of library staff, and their patrons. These trainings are open to any library staff in Rhode Island. Registration through OLIS required.

AtoZ Databases: Friday March 28 at Warwick Public Library

AtoZ Databases is used by patrons to find information about businesses – including healthcare professionals – and people in order to create mailing lists and sales leads or to research job opportunities. This program will help library staff use the features of this resource of – performing effective searches for businesses and people, and learning how businesses can use the product to increase their reach and visibility.

HeritageQuest and African American Heritage Databases: Thursday April 17 at Cumberland Public Library

At this session, library staff will learn to use AskRI’s genealogical resources from ProQuest – HeritageQuest and the African American Heritage Database. Each with unique ways of conducting research, these databases are invaluable for historical research, with primary sources such as census data and draft records. Whether for their own use or to help patrons, staff will get an in-depth look at these tools.

Learning First Alliance RI 2014 Conference

This Saturday (3/8), will be giving away bookmarks and more and spreading word of our resources at Learning First Alliance Rhode Island’s 2nd annual conference. The theme of this year’s conference is “Digital Learners: Empowering Educators,” and a number of educators from around the state are slated to speak.
